First things first - So why am I “telling” YOU what trends are in or not and how to go about it? Well, besides being the proud owner of Atelier Dupré (Hi, I’m Sylvie!), I’m also a seasoned fashion designer, and still very much active in the fashion industry. As of this post, I just finished doing trends and designs for next year’s spring/summer season for one of my lux customers - So being on top of upcoming trends is my job!
Trends on a budget
Accessorize, accessorize, accessorize...
Fashion accessories are a great way to update a wardrobe and keep up with current trends without having to completely overhaul your entire wardrobe. By adding a few key accessories, you can give your outfits a fresh new look without breaking the bank.
For the next couple of season we’ll see 2 main directions in general fashion trends:
The modest unbranded look (aka, ridiculously expensive basics) called “quiet luxury” and the over-the-top “kooky lux” or the more is more look. Unless you have the budget for a basic Moncler polo top…I prefer the latter but we'll concentrate on "sharp and posh"...and with the right accessories, you can go from OK to WOW!
Here are some ways that the right fashion accessories can update your wardrobe to current trends:
- Add color and pattern: Adding accessories in bright, bold colors or fun patterns can instantly update a neutral outfit and make it look more current. For example, a bold printed scarf or/and an animal print piece can make a simple outfit look more interesting and on-trend.
- Layers and mix textures: Layering different textures is a great way to create visual interest and add depth to an outfit. For example, layering a macramé or faux-fur shawl over a denim jacket can instantly update a classic outfit and give it a modern twist.
-
Statement pieces: A single bold piece whether it be a vivid color bag, a really chunky necklace, oversized sun glasses or even a strong lipstick color can polish-up your look and propel you to the “she’s got the look”
- Feminine-masculine play:To create a unique eye-catching look, play with the balance of traditional men’s and women’s styles and accessories within a look. Pair a men’s blazer over a flirty dress with a glitzy brooch, or a poofy sleeve blouse with a men’s tie (and tie clip!) with chunky loafers and mesh socks. Ideally, you’ll need “2 of each“ within the look (ex.: 1 pc of men’s looking clothing + 1 men’s accessory in combo with 1 feminine clothing item + 1 feminine accessory)
Stay tuned, I’ll be adding more…
Conclusion:
Overall, the right fashion accessories can add a pop of color, texture, and style to your wardrobe, allowing you to experiment with different trends without having to completely overhaul your wardrobe. By choosing the right accessories, you can update your look to current trends and make any outfit fresh and new.
